More about Yiffy
Ever since the new Patreon-only bonus upd8 came out. I've been thinking about Yiffy more and more. The fact that Jade and Rose kept her a secret makes no sense to me. Why? What was the point? I wanted to tell you what I think Yiffy and her whole abduction arc will be like. I think I already expressed my opinion on how she came to be (These | three | posts) so now onto what I expect from her character.
In the latest Patreon bonus, I got to see the "behind the scenes" in BIG quotation marks of the last upd8 we got on the HS^2. It showed Dirk and (obviously) Hussie talking to each other. Wow, it almost feels like it's NOT a fictional character talking to a 40-year-old fan-service master. I want to make a separate post about it so I'm not going to get in-depth about it. What's important is what information we got about Yiffy.
First of all, Hussie tells us that she was sent to a boarding school. Specifically "Ms. Paint's Home for Inconvenient Girls" (ouch). Dirk asks a very important question: Why? Why did Rose and Jade hide their daughter from the world?
We don't get an answer. Because there IS no answer. He said it himself. So many things happened in Homestuck^2 that make no sense at all. Why did Karkat leave and become a Metal Gear Solid reference? Why would Jane even LOOK at Gamzee? Why did they all just assume that Vriska was dead? Why couldn't Jade adopt a kid? All of that can only be answered with "because that's what the writers wanted". NOTHING in Homestuck should be left without a complex answer. Everything in the comic has a purpose (ok maybe not the Capthalogue Modus), if it is mentioned, it can be traced back to something else, something significant.
Yiffy is here because Hussie wanted her to be here. He didn't care how the writers would make her make sense. She had to be there and it was final.
So what do I think about Yiffy? From page 222 we know that she's being held hostage by Jane "Behind her, from a shadowy corner of the room, there is an agitated growling noise and the rattle of chains.". It's obviously her since well, she's part dog, and I don't think a regular human/troll child would "growl".
I strongly believe Yiffy *HATES* her mothers.
Let me explain.
First of all, they named their daughter Yiffany. YIFFANY. They named their child after a sex act. That is so- freaking- stupid and wrong on so many levels. That's not even irony at this point. That's just cruel. She would surely get berated for it.
She was their secret daughter. Yeah, she went to school and stuff, but her social life would have to be strictly monitored since she obviously looks just like Jade and has her dog ears. All that because Jade just wanted to be a mother. She didn't even think about what her child would feel like being kept a secret. Because of her mothers' double lives, she probably didn't get much attention as a child. They had a lot of responsibilities with the rebellion and their personal troubles. There's obviously not enough time for an illegitimate child in all of this. I think looking at all of that, it would be easy for Jane to get Yiffy on her side by simply promising her a normal life. She wouldn't have to hide anymore if the secret just got out. Jane would be able to provide Yiffy with a life she never had.
The girl would love to get back at her mothers' for making here live like this, being miserable for 15 years of her life. How would she do that? Rose and Jade are a part of the rebellion, what If Yiffy joined their opposition? It would make a great plot twist.
Overall I'm so happy that Yiffy was kidnapped by Jane. She's in a much better place right now, far from her neglectful mothers. I hope she stays on Crocker's side. I'd love to see Yiffy and Jane bond a little bit. That would be a great development for both of their characters.
