Yiffy and other things I wish didn't happen | Part 1
I cannot even attempt to convey how MAD and DISAPPOINTED I am right now.
30 new pages of Homestuck2 came out a few days ago. The first part was cool, I really liked it but HOLY ▇▇ it all went downhill after a while. I'm so revolted I decided to make a whole post about this one 30 page update. Probably going to make it into three, 1000-word parts because it's a lot longer than previous ones. I will also, for the sake of my own comfort be calling the updates "upd8s" because that's how we call new Homestuck pages and I've been using this word for 2 years now.

The first command we get is >(Jade and Rose: Explain everything.)So they straight up tell us that Rose already knew who the aforementioned "Yiffy" was.
*confusion* |
At that point, we still didn't know who she was and right now I wish it remained that way. The first thing I saw when I clicked the update link from twitter was Vriska, so you can just imagine how excited I was. I love her new look with one of Harry Anderson's bandanas. The green-ish/teal-ish color goes amazingly well with her regular palette, while not disrupting the really appealing contrast between her bright red shoes (which look super cute on her) and the rest of her clothing.
Page 206 |
Vriska's casually waiting for all the teenagers she chose to babysit to stop fighting and getting more and more impatient (but honestly can you blame her?). They're debating whether to go through with John's idea for escape (or I guess Harry and Vrissy are, Tavros is too scared to add anything valuable to the conversation) and they finally address the whole situation that happened in the epilogue during his son's birthday where he literally tried to kidnap little Tavros. Of course, his heart was in the right place when he attempted that but still, he didn't really plan ahead. Tavros said he didn't hold it against him and that his home life situation getting worse was not John's fault. It all just comes down to the question of whether John was right or not and I can't answer that because as of writing this I have not yet gotten to that point in the story and I'm not able to remember anything from the first time I read it since it has already been a year since then. They're still trapped in Roxy's house. Can't just walk out and risk getting... assassinated am I right? *wink* *wonk*
After a solid 4 minutes of arguing Vriska loses her temper and yells at them. I loved that. I thought they were going to finally make her act like she did in the original comic.
Page 207 |
Aside from getting angry at Vrissy for insulting John (which was really cute), she told all of them how privileged they are and how they would never survive on Alternia (they probably wouldn't). Then we get to see more Vriska-type behavior from her when she just automatically assumes that John wanted HER to lead them out of that situation and not Harry Anderson. She also mentions how he "doesn't have anything important going on (...) but somehow John loves him anyway" and that "not everyone is so lucky". That either alludes to her romance with John in another timeline or to other people that aren't afraid to put "love" and "Vriska" in the same sentence AKA Terezi.
She gives Harry Anderson a fresh, new STRIFE SPECIBUS and I was soooooo happy they included that! We haven't seen anybody setting it up since... 2009?? More throwbacks to the first 100 pages of Homestuck are coming on the next few pages.
Page 208 |
So after a lot of yelling, Harry Anderson goes up to his room and gets a minute to decide what will be his strife weapon for the rest of his life. I don't think Vriska knows how you're supposed to think before making important decisions but come on, it's Vriska, bad decisions are her specialty. Even though I'm very glad they included a strife specibus in the story I won't analyze every single panel of him setting it up, simply because I value my time. I would also like to point out the single croc in Harry's room. Just that. It's kind of funny.
Page 212 |
So Harry Anderson sets up his strife specibus and goes back downstairs. Why was he the only one getting a strife specibus? I have no idea and I seriously don't care at this point since nothing makes sense anymore. He also mentions how "he has a feeling it's going to be..." then Vrissy cuts him off. That, of course, is a reference to the beginning of Homestuck back in 2009 and I think the epilogues? I have to check. Nope, not the epilogues but still a nice throwback. That means that the introduction to the story is finally over and the proper Homestuck 2 begun. "Lovely".
Page 213 |
While the 235 pages of Homestuck^2 cannot even compare to 8100 pages of Homestuck, it already gives us some wholesome moments. At this point in the originals story, John was trapped in his room with a bathtub blocking his door, 2 minutes away from entering the game, 1 page away from the introduction of the second main character: Rose Lalonde. This one includes Harry Anderson and Tavros having a really cute moment. Harry asks him if he's ok and Tavros was equally shocked as me. While they have almost nothing in common aside from being in a quadrant with Vrissy and their parents being literal gods I think it would be very nice if they had a pleasant relationship with each other. They both have to deal with Vriska 2.0 on a daily basis, that's relatable, right? Even though they're in her totally opposite quadrants I like to see them having respect for each other.
I will also mention that we finally got a look at what a casual kismessistude looks like, since we only got to see moirallegiances and matespritships (those took so much brainpower to type) and never actual, functioning black romances (including aussp- auspti- aspi- THE ASHEN QUADRANT).
At the end, Vriska announces that she's done and casually walks out the front door. I thought it couldn't get any better.
Turns out I was right. It didn't get better. Not at all.
Vriska is the cool aunt that just got parole and your parents don't let you hang out with her.
