About a year ago I found a fan-made Pokemon Fire Red ROM Hack based entirely off Homestuck. It's not finished yet, I'd say it's about 5-10 hours of gameplay out of Pokemon's 20+ hours. It's still A LOT of fun and it features all the most important characters with all of their forms (baby/grub, regular and God Tier).
As of writing this I'm in Lavender Town AKA I don't remember what they renamed it as in Sburbmon so I'm calling it Lavender Town like in regular Pokemon.
At the beginning of the game, we get to choose if we want to be a Human or a Troll rather than Boy/Girl. If you pick "human" you're gonna look like this. If you want to choose "troll" you're just going to look like Andrew Hussie in Kanaya cosplay. This one looked better in my opinion.
If you've been living under a rock for the last 30 years and don't know what Pokemon is about, allow me to explain: You catch little monsters and make them battle each other. That's it. That's all you do. In Sburbmon they replaced all Pokemons with Homestuck characters.
The story is also a little different. It this world, apart from being used for battles, Sburbmons are caught and treated as slaves. It doesn't sound that good so I'm not going to dwell on that.
My favorite thing about the game is that it gives you more options on evolution rather than straight-up Baby/Grub to Regular to God Tier. Here is an example of how that works:
You can choose whether you want John to go God Tier, Trickster mode, or change his baby form into his alpha version. The same goes for other kids. Though I don't think Rose or Dave have their trickster versions. Rose can go grimdark and you can turn Dave into Davepetasprite^2/Davesprite.
Towns have also been changed a lot. They added places such as The Battlefield, Prospit or Derse. The whole premise is the same and with basic knowledge of the Kanto region, you can go through it with no problems.
Right now my team looks like this:
I wanted to make Karkat go God Tier first since he was my starter, but I needed someone to have wings so I could teach them "Fly". I'm lazy I don't want to walk anywhere.🙄
I really wanted to get Kanaya and Rose, while Terezi was kind of just there so I took her.
I'm not going to evolve Rose into any special version of her, I don't want her grimdark. The standard God Tier rose is perfectly fine.
Disregard the Bec Sburbmon at the bottom. It's just a bad joke that relates to Yiffy and her parents and it's not staying here for long.
Every Sburbmon is not just a Homestuck sprite pasted onto an original Pokemon. All of them are completely different and their move sets and types are absolutely customized to suit particular characters. For example, Baby John (one of the 3 starters) is a Normal-type and becomes a Normal/Flying-type upon evolution.
To summarize, Sburbomon is an amazing Pokemon ROM hack with so much creativity and effort put into it by all the people involved in its creation. It doesn't make my emulator crash every 5 seconds like all the other ROM hacks do so it's definitely a big plus. All of the sprites look amazing but some of them look like they were made by a totally different person and don't fit the style of the other ones (compare Terezi and the other ones on the picture above). This game is constantly being updated and I can't wait for it to be finished.
