ngl homestuck is cool
I'll be honest with you here I have no idea what's with me and my connection to the internet. My earliest memory of the internet is watching (for some reason) very vulgar Disney movie parodies and me being the angel child I was at the age of like... 7 that stuff really was something else. It got even better when I started watching "Steven Universe” in 2015, and I was so frustrated that new episodes were coming out a full year after they aired in America I decided to pirate them off the internet in English. That's the reason why I'm able to speak comprehensive English now. I was never into languages really. My opinion was that, as long as I could understand what they were saying, it was alright. I started getting more into the English part of the internet and discovered the "Warrior Cats" book series as well as some other animated cartoons that I really enjoyed. That's when I was starting to properly get into digital art. The Internet was already a huge part of my life back then. Maybe because I didn't have any friends but that's not what we're talking about here. I loved looking at what the internet looked like back in the day. It fascinated me how different everything was, how people used it, and for what. That's how I also discovered Homestuck. I've seen many web comics on the internet. It's almost impossible to not stumble upon one of those. Homestuck is different though.
First of all, it is INCREDIBLY long. Like, SO long. At this point, the main comic is about 8100 pages, has more words than the King James Bible, and over 3 hours worth of flash animations. It took me about 4 weeks to read, while I did nothing else from the minute I woke up until I went to sleep. Just reading. But that was back in 2018. Since then I've read it 4 times, almost 5 as of writing this and it progressively took me less time. This time it looks like I'm gonna be able to finish Homestuck in 2 weeks. It's also VERY not suitable for kids, despite looking very cute and cartoony.
You might think that reading the same book 5 times is extremely dumb. I would say that too, definitely, but as I already said Homestuck is different. It's so long and hard to understand with its very confounding language that every time I read it I learn important things I could never see during the first or the second reading. I love the complexity of Homestuck. Whenever I use the words I learned from it people tell me I "sound like The Bible" and they have no idea what I'm talking about. My love for intricate language came straight from this ridiculously long comic. That's not the only thing that fascinates me about the story. The intricacy of it and how difficult it is to understand is what kept me interested for almost 2 years at this point. New stuff keeps coming my way and by new, I mean old because it was all right there. I just had to look for it. When it came to the epilogues, I managed to read them in 2 days of nonstop reading. I can't say I enjoyed them as much as the main book since well, there were no pictures. The story overall was ok but definitely NOT great. It still had the remarkable vocabulary but at the same time, it lacked the charm of Homestuck. I can't exactly describe it.
When it comes to Homestuck^2 It's still too 'young' for me to have a strong opinion on.
I literally have no idea what else to say so bye I guess
Don't let the cutesy characters fool you. |
